Skin health," "skin quality," and "natural look" are the main goals of most beauty treatments these days.
Natural, highly purified DNA units called polynucleotides are taken from the gonads of trout.
The elasticity of the long DNA pieces makes polynucleotides-containing devices (like Ameela®, Rejuran®, Nucleofill®) work as short-term fillers. They also improve skin health and help it heal itself over time. In the end, the skin looks healthy and the tissue regeneration is more natural and deep. A lot of research has shown that polynucleotides may have stronger dermal reactivating qualities than other main skin active principles like hyaluronic acid.
The Italian Scientific Board talked about the survey data and came up with a set of consensus statements and suggestions for using polynucleotides to rejuvenate the skin. The experts came up with treatment goals and the best ways to reach those goals so that the patients looked their best. They gave useful advice on when to use the polynucleotides, how much to use, how much to shoot, how many sessions are needed, and how long should you wait between sessions for different parts of the body and face. The following information shows what happened at the final agreement meeting.
Are polynucleotides safe?
The Scientific Board thinks that polynucleotides are a safe and effective way to treat the texture of skin on the face and body to make it look younger and more toned. Intradermal polynucleotide injections return the body's condition to normal through letting dermal fibrocytes work normally again. If there are any side effects, they are always small and go away quickly.
How do polynucleotides work?
Based on new data from clinical practice in Italy, the polynucleotides treatment approach makes all treated skin areas better in terms of quality. The lips and cheekbones, the area around the mouth and the neck, usually have the best cosmetic results.
The top six reasons for polynucleotides were:
1. fine lines on the cheek
2. fine lines under the eyes
3. fine lines around the eyes
4. uneven skin tone
5. dry skin
6. fine lines on the forehead
Polynucleotide injections were done in three sessions, with four weeks between each one. 79% of patients who got polynucleotides also had laser and light therapy. Radiofrequency (non-invasive, needle RF) and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) were the most common treatments.
How long do polynucleotides take to work?
After the first polynucleotide injections, it can take about 6 to 8 weeks before patient start noticing any changes. These changes are just the beginning of the improvements in the skin. And once patient start seeing them, they can last for up to 12 months. So, while it might take a bit of time to see the full effects, patient can enjoy the benefits for quite a long while.
